Be closer to art in Leeds

Alan Bennett writes:
I first went to Leeds Art Gallery as a boy. It was during the War when the pictures had been largely evacuated to Temple Newsam where I was happy to take the tram and follow them. That was the beginning of a lifetime’s pleasure and inspiration that I've found in the galleries of Leeds. So now I make this appeal only partly for those who love art and support the arts in Leeds but for a boy or girl like myself all those years ago who wanders into the art gallery not quite knowing what it's about. More than ever these days children like that need all the help we can give them.
